Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: May Appointments

It's been two months since I've posted. Oops! Things have been pretty uneventful for Ava, which was a welcomed change for a while. We've been going to monthly cardiology appointments, having monthly home visits from the physical therapist, and just trying to fatten her little self up. I am so thrilled to report that she has started smiling! Such a blessing to a mama's heart. Here are some pics from the past couple of months!

All four of us went to Birmingham for this month's appointments. Jack enjoyed going to this Birmingham place he always hears about. We stayed with my best friend, Sarah, the night before and Jack had a blast playing with her two little boys. It has been such a blessing having family and friends up there. It certainly gives us something to look forward to when traveling up there so often.

Ava had her second opinion appointment with the ophthalmologist. He agreed with the occuloplastic surgeon that her eye lid does not need to be surgically repaired. He said that she should be able to tolerate it staying open while she sleeps. She is a little far-sighted, but does not need glasses right now. Her left eye crosses at times, so we will patch her right eye for an hour a day to strengthen her left. We are very relieved to cross that surgery off the list.

There wasn't anything new to report at the cardiology appointment. The anatomy of her heart is still the same with all the same defects. He was happy with her weight gain and will consult with the surgeon who did her shunt surgery about how big he wants her to be before surgery. They may schedule something for later in the Summer.
