Ava Has Arrived!!

Ava Caroline Burgess arrived December 4, 2012 at 9:18 p.m. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 1/4 inches long. She cried a sweet little cry and was nice and pink! She has a head full of dark hair, but her eyebrows look much lighter. So maybe she'll have blonde hair like her mama did as a child. She was stable at birth and I even got to hold her for a minute before they took her to the NICU.

Meeting my girl

In the NICU, they started her on a medication for her heart that caused her to have some apnea during the night, but she was eventually taken off of it since she was doing so well. Cardiology did an echo this morning and determined that she has Tetrology of Fallot (click here for info), which is a combination of defects that we already knew she had. She is doing very well considering these things and they do not expect her to have surgery until at least 3-6 months.

So happy to get to her room this morning

I got to take her out of the isolette

She has a problem with one of her eyelids not closing all the way, but we haven't gotten a report back on that. Ophthalmology came by today, but did not make a decision. They should be back tomorrow to check on her again.

She loves her isolette

Feeding is the next hurdle. They have not attempted to feed her yet, but hopefully they will do that tonight or in the morning. Prayers, prayers, prayers that she will be successful feeding from a bottle. A nasogastric tube will be used to supplement what she isn't able to get by mouth.

More updates to come tomorrow. Hopefully they will be good ones!!
